On July 4 we celebrate our nation’s independence and freedom, as well
as the individual freedoms and liberties we enjoy as citizens of this great
nation. At great personal risk and loss, as well as the loss of many lives
do we enjoy what we do in the United States.
It is important that we honor all of that by not only celebrating our
independence but by living in it responsibly, never taking our freedoms
and liberties for granted nor abusing them.
July also brings with it the freedom from school and full calendars.
However, that freedom too needs to be lived in responsibly, using that
free time to God’s honor and glory, continuing to grow in wisdom and
stature as did even Jesus.
The greatest freedom of all however, is the freedom we have through
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has freed us from the curse of the
Law, having fulfilled its demands for us and having paid its penalty of
death for us by sacrificing Himself on the cross. With His resurrection
three days later, Jesus has also freed us from eternal death. These
freedoms give us continual peace and joy. However, realizing the great
cost of these freedoms – namely the life of Jesus, we need to live in
these freedoms responsibly as well. Having been freed from sin and
death does not give us a license to do whatever we want. Compelled by
Jesus’ love we strive by the power and working of the Holy Spirit to do
only what pleases Him and brings glory to our Heavenly Father.
Strength for such living comes from God’s Word and Sacrament.
Accordingly, we invite you to make use of your freedom to worship and
join us in worship around God’s Word and Sacrament. Through Labor
Day Weekend we worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30.
This worship service is interpreted for the Deaf as well.
